The Thibodaux Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 52 presented two local college students with scholarships this week.
The $500 scholarships, which were presented to Yessenia Mendoza and Ashlyn Sutton, will go toward the students’ 2020 spring and fall semesters, officials said.
Mendoza is a sophomore who studies criminal justice at Fletcher Technical Community College. After graduation, she plans to work in the juvenile system and continue her education to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Though she is still in school, she hopes to obtain a job or internship with the Juvenile Detention Center in Thibodaux or Gray to gain experience and be a role model for juveniles.
Sutton is a junior history and secondary education major at Nicholls State University. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and plans to graduate in the fall of 2022. She serves as the secretary of the Circle K on campus, which is a part of the NEAT or Nicholls Education Association of Teachers, the Nicholls honors program and two honor societies.
