Gizzi Nursing Scholarship
In memory of Michele Lynch Gizzi, a dedicated nurse, a $1,000 scholarship is available to permanent residents of Aquidneck Island who are pursuing a degree in nursing. Hayward Maritime Memorial Scholarship
Seamen’s Church Institute of Newport will be accepting applications for the Leonard W. and Katherine C. Hayward Maritime Memorial Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is applicable to Newport County residents who are admitted to an accredited educational program with a focus on preparing for maritime occupations. The application is at seamensnewport.org. Deadline is May 17.
Lions Club Scholarship
The Newport Lions Club offers a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating Rogers High School student who is accepted in an accredited fouryear post-secondary school. The scholarship is renewable. Ripa Memorial Scholarship
Forum Lodge 391 Sons of Italy will award the Anna M. Ripa Memorial Scholarships to graduating seniors of Italian descent who plan to attend college in the fall. Three $1,000 scholarships will be granted, to one student at each of the three island public high schools. Dr. Robert Semco of Semco Orthodontics has announced his sixth annual $1,000 college scholarship for Newport County high school students. He is asking students to read and write a 1,200 -word essay/book report on “How to Get Straight A’s in School and Have Fun at the Same Time” by Gordon W. Green Jr. Ph.D.
The award provides $1,000 to be used for expenses associated with freshman year at an accredited college or technical school. Applicants must be in high school and be a resident of Newport County. Applications and more information can be found at semcoorthodontics.com. The deadline is Aug. 31.
Slom Scholarship for Freedom and Diversity
The Slom Scholarship will provide a minimum of two college scholarships for high school seniors who submit an interpretive work on the George Washington Letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport relating to the present day. Tinney Family Arts Scholarship
The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County is offering the Tinney Family Arts Scholarship of $2,000 to a graduating high school senior in memory of the Tinney family. Applicants must live in Newport County, no matter where they attend school or are home schooled. This scholarship will be awarded on demonstrated artistic talent.
