LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s track & field distance runner Luke Beattie has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, April 4. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
Beattie broke the school record in the men’s 10,000 meters with a time of 28:33.45 as he placed fifth in the race this past weekend at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif. The senior from Woodstock, Ill., broke the old mark of 28:38.36 set by nine-time All-American Dillon Maggard in 2018.
Beattie’s time in the 10,000 meters currently ranks second in the Mountain West, ninth in the west and 13th overall in the nation.

GYMNASTICS – Sophomore Rebecca Wells (Smyrna, Tenn.) made her collegiate all-around debut last weekend at the NCAA Regional Championships in West Valley City, Utah, and placed sixth overall between the afternoon and evening sessions with a 39.200, which ranks first all-time in school history for a regional meet. Wells helped the Aggies tie for third with a 196.025 in the second semifinal of the Salt Lake City NCAA Regional Second Round at the Maverik Center. Wells was the Aggies’ top placer on two events. She tied for third overall on floor with a career-high 9.900, which ranks third all-time at USU for a regional meet, and had a 9.850 on vault to tie for 14th, which is tied for third all-time in school history for a regional meet. In her collegiate debut on bars, Wells placed 46th on the event with a 9.775, then finished the meet by tying for 41st on beam with a 9.675.
SOCCER – Senior midfielder Kami Warner (Springville, Utah) recorded three points behind one goal and an assist last week as Utah State posted a 1-0-1 Mountain West road record with a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Colorado College and a 2-0 win at Air Force. Against the Tigers, Warner scored her second goal of the year and led USU with three shots, including two on frame. Against the Falcons, Warner recorded her second assist of the season, helping on USU’s final goal of the afternoon. For the week, Warner recorded four shots, with two on goal, one goal and one assist in 160 minutes of action.
SOFTBALL – Junior shortstop Lexi Orozco (San Marcos, Calif.) helped Utah State to a 1-3 record last week, as the Aggies fell to Utah Valley at home, 2-1, before going 1-2 (L, 10-5; W, 6-3; L, 7-6) in a Mountain West series at Nevada. Against the Wolverines, Orozco went 2-for-3 at the plate, hitting a double and a home run. She also recorded two putouts and one assist. In the first game against the Wolf Pack, Orozco went 1-for-2 at the plate, drawing two walks and scoring one run. She also added three putouts and three assists defensively. In the win over Nevada, Orozco was 0-for-3 at the plate, but walked once and had one putout and one assist. In the series finale, she was 2-of-3 at the plate, hitting a home run and scoring one additional run. She also added two putouts and two assists. On the week, Orozco batted a team-high .455 (5-of-11) with one double and two home runs. She scored four runs while having two RBIs and drawing three walks. Defensively, she finished the week with eight putouts and seven assists without committing any errors.
MEN’S TENNIS – Sophomore Roko Savin (Zagreb, Croatia) helped Utah State to a Mountain West 1-1 record last week with a 4-1 home win against San Diego State and a 4-2 road loss at UNLV. Against the Aztecs, Savin posted a straight-set win (6-4, 6-2) in the No. 4 singles position. His doubles match with redshirt freshman Jack Ninteman was left unfinished. Against the Rebels, Savin and Ninteman recorded a 6-0 doubles win in the No. 3 position. He then earned the Aggies’ only singles win, posting a three-set victory (6-4, 2-6, 6-1) at the No. 4 position.
WOMEN’S TENNIS – Junior Annaliese County (Highland, Utah) helped Utah State to a 1-1 Mountain West record last week with a 4-3 win against San Diego State and a 4-0 loss to UNLV as both matches were played on neutral courts in Boise, Idaho. Against the Aztecs, County paired with junior Gabrielle Dekkers to record a 6-2 doubles win at the No. 3 position. She then clinched the match with a three-set win (7-5, 6-7, 6-4) at No. 5 singles. Against the Rebels, County and Dekkers recorded the Aggies’ only win with a 6-2 doubles victory at the No. 3 position.
WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Junior Hailey Suit (Kent, Wash.) captured a pair of titles last weekend at the Utah Valley Collegiate Invitational in Orem. Suit placed first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.95 and ran a leg on the winning 4×100-meter relay team that crossed the finish line in 46.73.
VOLLEYBALL – Junior outside hitter Kristy Frank (Kiev, Ukraine) led Utah State to a 1-1 Mountain West record last week with a 3-1 home win against San José State and a 3-2 loss at New Mexico. Against the Spartans, Frank recorded eight kills, hitting .227 (8-3-22) on the night. She also added six digs and four block assists in the win. Against the Lobos, Frank recorded a season-high 18 kills, hitting .311 (18-4-45). She also had a season-high 13 digs, recording her first double-double of the season. Frank added two assists and one block assist in the loss. On the week, Frank hit .284 (26-7-67), while adding 19 digs, five block assists, two assists and two service aces.
