Monroe County Community College has made ten full-tuition performing music scholarships available for students for fall semester.
The deadline for this scholarship opportunity has been extended to April 12. Students who receive such a scholarship should show promise in the field of voice or band instrucments.
MCCC offers courses in applied voice, applied instrument, music for elementary teachers, chorale, and a college/community symphony band. These classes are designed to prepare students with a foundation upon which to build a profession or vocation.
Choir applicants should send an email from their MCCC student email address to cbrodie@monroeccc.edu. The email message must include student name, high school, phone number, name and email of the high school band director, counselor or teacher who will also provide a letter of recommendation at the time of application. Choir applicants will also be expected to perform a prepared solo and some sight singing.
Band applicants should send an email from their MCCC email address to mfelder@monroeccc.edu. The email message must include student name, instrument, high school, phone number, and name and email of the high school band director, counselor or teacher who will also provide a letter of recommendation. Band applicants will also be expected to perform a solo or an etude; play five of the scales listed in the MSBOA Proficiency I or II guidelines; and play a short selection of sight reading (music provided) for the audition.
Applicants must reside in Monroe County and accepted for admission to MCCC, at which time they will receive their required MCCC student email address. The Application for Admission can be found at www.monroeccc.edu/apply.
Performing Music Scholarship recipients will need to be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credit hours or more) prior to the first day of classes of fall semester. The scholarship cannot be extended beyond two years. The recipient must maintain a cumulative 2.2 GPA (grade point average), take the Agora Chorale or Band courses offered each semester, and participate in each Chorale or Band concert.
