HILLSBOROUGH, NJ – The Hillsborough Education Foundation continues its “$10 for $10,000” fall fund raising campaign through Nov. 10 with the goal of providing grants and scholarships to teachers and students in Hillsborough Township Public Schools.
The Power of 10 grows HEF’s community network in many ways:
If each person who reads this shares HEF’s fundraising campaign with 10 people, and those 10 people share with another 10 people, that one person’s reach extends to 100 people.
If 10 people donate $10 to HEF, that raises $100 for the fundraising campaign. If those 10 people share with another 10 people, that raises $1,000. Repeat 10 times and the community helps raise $10,000 to benefit students.
HEF received creative and innovative grant requests totaling $18,000, and was able to fund about half of those requests during the 2019-2020 school year. HEF funded two 75-inch TVs for the Auten Road Intermediate School gyms to enhance the physical education program. The large screen TVs replace the existing projector and will allow all students to easily see the instructional slides and example videos. Further, students can refer back to the TV to reinforce their understanding of the skill or activity thus building their self-confidence.
Other grants that were funded include K’nex model kits for Hillsborough High School math classes to further their study of periodic phenomena, pre-vocational work boxes for Hillsborough Middle School special education classes, and books, weighted vests and wobble seating for elementary school classrooms.
The Hillsborough community’s continued generosity and support of public education allows Hillsborough Education Foundation to continue its teacher grant program.
The mission of HEF is to strengthen the bridge between the community and schools by encouraging community involvement and financial support to enhance public education for students at all levels. HEF was established in 1996 and has a long history of funding innovative programs and classroom initiatives, including the initial funding for the Hillsborough High School robotics team and fundraising for the Hillsborough High School turf field in 2000. One of HEF’s longest running programs has been granting scholarships to graduating Hillsborough High School seniors.
Education foundations promote excellence in education by funding activities that would not otherwise be funded through the traditional school district budget. HEF seeks to engage Hillsborough Township Public Schools alumni, parents, business leaders, community members and organizations to harness private resources to support public education. HEF further seeks to offer opportunities for community members to become involved with the advancement of public school education.
