As the first recipient of the Kathleen Leckie Memorial Scholarship, Melissa Espinoza-Rojo was grateful for the award.
“I felt very honored! It was very helpful to pay my tuition and fees, books/supplies, housing and meal plan,” said Espinoza-Rojo, a North Henderson High School graduate who is studying nursing and U.S. Latinx Studies at Western Carolina University. The scholarship was established in memory of Ms. Kathleen Leckie, a beloved teacher at Clear Creek Elementary, who died unexpectedly in January 2020.
