Kolkata, Nov 30 (UNI) Cargill India in partnership with the Institute of International Education (IIE) has announced the awardees of the 8th edition of Cargill Global Scholars Program 2020.

The programme provides financial support and is aimed at promoting students who demonstrate exemplary academic achievements, leadership potential and study in food, agriculture and risk management.

In India, 10 scholarships are being awarded for this academic year to students from leading science and technology institutions – Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Delhi and Gandhinagar, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru and Lady Shri Ram College for Women. Under the two-year scholarship program, selected students will receive scholarship funds of US$2,500 per year for up to two years.

Taking a step further this year, the programme will be onboarding three new reputed institutions; ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal for their B.Tech. (Dairy Technology) program, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana for their B.Tech. (Food Technology) program and University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru for B.Tech (Ag.Engg) and B.Tech (Food Tech) programs.

Students selected from these institutions will be awarded scholarships next year, which includes financial support as well as leadership development opportunities under the program.

Speaking on the occasion, Raj Karunakaran, HR Head, Cargill India, said, “We are committed to talent development by nurturing future leaders, laying the foundation for a better tomorrow. Cargill Global Scholarship Program helps Cargill identify top talent, giving students the chance to hone tech and business acumen at a time when talent risk is one of the most significant challenges to businesses. This year we have added three more institutes from the field of agricultural science and we believe that our association with these institutions will help expand our vision to more young talent and build a strong foundation for their academic and career growth.”

Vivek Mansukhani, Head, Institute of International Education (IIE), India, said, “the Institute of International Education (IIE) is once again privileged to collaborate with Cargill on their flagship Global Scholars Program. The opportunities offered by this value-creating program enable potential young future leaders to acquire knowledge, skills and perspectives through one-on-one mentoring and various group learning modules. The program also connects them with peers from around the world, helping them develop cross-cultural skills. The sustained commitment and long-term vision of Cargill’s investment in raising truly capable people is very inspiring”.

Cargill Global Scholars programme is designed for undergraduate students across six countries including India, Brazil, China, Russia, Indonesia and the United States. Throughout the program, students receive experiential learning modules, including leadership development training, coupled with counseling from Cargill leaders. Students also gain valuable opportunities to observe and learn from business and community leaders in their own countries.

For the past seven years, more than 430 students globally from more than 65 universities across India, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Russia, and the United States have benefitted from global program. This includes 70 students from India.
